Configuring Engagement Settings
Learn how to choose an engagement mode (Automatic or Manual) and target follow/unfollow, feed, specific accounts, and hashtags in Influxie.
Configuring Engagement Settings
The Engage tab is where you decide who the bot interacts with. It starts with a single choice between two modes — Automatic or Manual — and then exposes the targeting controls for the mode you pick.
Where to Find Engagement Settings
- Go to your account page
- Click “Configurations”
- Select the “Engage” tab
Autosave: There is no Save button. Every field saves itself automatically about half a second after you stop editing. Any change you make only affects future sessions — it never changes a session that is already running.
Turning a section off wipes its data: If you turn off any Manual targeting section, Influxie asks you to confirm, because doing so deletes that section’s data. Switch deliberately.
Choose a Mode
The Engage tab has two modes. Pick one:
- Automatic — “Influxie will find audiences within your niche.” You don’t specify individual targets; the bot discovers relevant accounts for you based on your content categories.
- Manual — “Choose exactly who you want to interact with.” You specify the targets yourself: specific accounts, follow/unfollow counts, your feed, and hashtags.
Both modes produce follow, unfollow, like, and watch actions — the difference is how the bot picks its targets.
Automatic Mode
In Automatic mode, Influxie finds audiences within your niche on its own. You shape the niche by choosing content categories.
How it works:
- Pick up to 5 content categories that define your niche (for example: Fitness, Nutrition, Wellness).
- The bot uses those categories to discover relevant accounts and engage with them automatically.
- You don’t add hashtags or competitor usernames — the discovery is driven by the categories.
When to use Automatic:
- You want hands-off targeting.
- You have a clear niche but don’t want to research specific accounts or hashtags.
Note: The content category is also chosen when you first connect an account. In Automatic mode you can refine it here by picking up to 5 categories.
Manual Mode
In Manual mode, you tell the bot exactly who to interact with using these collapsible sections. Turn on the ones you want.
Specific Accounts
Toggle: “Specific accounts”
What It Does: Targets the audience around specific Instagram accounts you name (your chosen influencers, competitors, or similar accounts).
How to Add Accounts:
- Type Instagram usernames into the input field
- Add multiple accounts separated by commas
- Remove accounts by clicking the × on each tag
Who to Target: Tick at least one of these — the bot needs at least one source of targets:
- Account followers — engage with users who follow the specified accounts.
- Account following — engage with users the specified accounts follow.
- Like posts — engage with anyone who likes a post from the specified accounts.
Minimum Following Limit: Only engage with users who follow at least this many accounts. The default is 50, which helps the bot skip inactive or bot accounts.
Best Practices:
- Choose 5-10 accounts maximum
- Select accounts in your niche
- Avoid accounts with millions of followers (too broad)
Follow Accounts
Toggle: “Follow accounts”
What It Does: Sets how many new accounts the bot will follow per session. This is the primary way to grow through reciprocal follows.
Follow Limit:
- Enter the maximum number of accounts to follow per session
- Start with 10-20 for new accounts
- Increase gradually as your account ages
Best Practices:
- Start with 10-20 follows per session
- Increase gradually over weeks
- Monitor your follower-to-following ratio
- Stop if you see Instagram warnings
Pro Tip: New accounts should start very conservatively (10-15 follows per session). Accounts older than 6 months can typically handle more.
Unfollow Accounts
Toggle: “Unfollow accounts”
What It Does: Sets how many accounts to unfollow per session, to maintain a healthy follower-to-following ratio.
Unfollow Limit:
- Enter the maximum number of accounts to unfollow per session
- Set lower than your follow limit (typically)
Unfollow Options:
Option 1: “Unfollow non-followers” (Recommended)
Only unfollows users who don’t follow you back. The safest approach; preserves mutual connections.
Option 2: “Unfollow any”
Unfollows accounts regardless of whether they follow you back. More aggressive.
Warning: “Unfollow any” can damage relationships with your audience. Use with caution.
Best Practices:
- Set unfollow limit lower than follow limit (e.g., follow 30, unfollow 15)
- Use “Unfollow non-followers” almost exclusively
- Unfollow during different sessions than following
Feed
Toggle: “Feed interaction”
What It Does: Interacts with content that appears in your normal Instagram feed.
Feed Interaction Limit:
- Maximum number of feed posts to engage with per session
- Try 10-30 interactions per session
When to Enable:
- Recommended for most accounts
- Especially useful for established accounts
Hashtags
Toggle: “Hashtags”
What It Does: Targets users who engage with content under specific hashtags. This is where hashtag targeting lives — it is part of the Engage tab, not the Interactions tab.
How to Add Hashtags:
- Add up to 20 hashtags
- Separate multiple hashtags with commas
- Remove hashtags by clicking the × on each tag
Who to Target: Choose whether to engage with:
- Top posts — users who like the most popular posts under your hashtags.
- Users who liked top posts — users actively engaging with the top content under your hashtags.
You can enable one or both.
Best Practices:
- Use up to 20 relevant hashtags
- Mix popular and niche-specific hashtags
- Research hashtags in your niche
- Update hashtags regularly for variety

Common Questions
Should I enable all Manual sections at once? Start with one or two (for example, Follow accounts plus Specific accounts), then gradually add Feed and Hashtags. Test each section’s impact first.
Automatic or Manual — which should I pick? Pick Automatic if you have a clear niche and want the bot to find audiences for you. Pick Manual if you want precise control over exactly which accounts, hashtags, and sources the bot targets.
Can I target hashtags in the Engage tab? Yes. Hashtag targeting is part of the Engage tab (under the Hashtags section in Manual mode). It is not in the Interactions tab — the Interactions tab only controls viewing behaviour like watch times.
What’s the ideal follow-to-unfollow ratio? A 2:1 ratio is common (follow 20, unfollow 10) to maintain growth while cleaning up non-followers.
Why would I use “Unfollow any”? Only for specific scenarios like dramatically reducing your following count or rebuilding your presence.
How do I know if my limits are too high? Monitor for Instagram warnings, sudden engagement drops, or session errors. Reduce limits immediately if you see these signs.
