Introduction

Transferring ownership is a significant action that changes who has ultimate control over your Influxie workspace. This guide covers when to transfer ownership, the process, and important considerations.

What Is Ownership Transfer?

Definition

Ownership transfer moves the Owner role from one team member to another:

Before Transfer:

  • Person A is Owner
  • Person B is Admin (or other role)

After Transfer:

  • Person B becomes Owner
  • Person A becomes Admin

Key Point: The previous Owner doesn’t leave the workspace—they become an Admin.

Why This Design

Continuity: Workspace continues operating without interruption Safety: Previous Owner retains access as Admin Reversible: New Owner could transfer back if needed

When NOT to Transfer

Don’t Transfer For:

  • Temporary delegation of authority
  • Giving someone full access temporarily (use Admin role instead)
  • Testing someone’s capabilities (promote to Admin first)
  • Short-term projects

Use Admin Instead: If you just need someone to have full operational access, promote them to Admin rather than transferring ownership.

Before Transferring Ownership

Pre-Transfer Checklist

Complete these steps before initiating transfer:

[ ] Confirm the Recipient is Already a Member

  • Transfer only works with existing team members
  • Invite them first if they’re not already a member
  • Verify their email address is correct

[ ] Update Your Payment Details in the Stripe Customer Portal FIRST

  • Your payment method stays attached to the workspace and will still be charged for existing subscriptions after the transfer.
  • If you do not want your card to remain on file for the new Owner’s subscriptions, update or remove your payment details in the Stripe Customer Portal (“Manage accounts”) before transferring.
  • This is the single most important pre-transfer step — once the transfer is complete, billing changes must be handled with the new Owner’s cooperation.

[ ] Discuss the Transfer

  • Have a conversation with the recipient
  • Confirm they want to become Owner
  • Explain what ownership means
  • Discuss responsibilities

[ ] Prepare for Admin Role

  • Understand you’ll become an Admin after transfer
  • You’ll still have full access except:
    • Cannot delete the workspace
    • Cannot transfer ownership again
    • Cannot remove or change the Owner (the Owner’s role dropdown and Save button are disabled)

[ ] Document Current State

  • Note current team members and roles
  • Document active sessions
  • Record any important configurations
  • Helps during transition

[ ] Choose Timing Carefully

  • Transfer during low-activity period if possible
  • Avoid transferring during critical campaigns
  • Ensure both parties available for questions

Considerations

Irreversible Decision: While the new Owner could transfer back to you, this requires their cooperation

Trust: Only transfer to someone you completely trust

Dependencies: Consider if any integrations or third-party services reference your account as the primary contact

How to Transfer Ownership

Step-by-Step Process

Only Current Owners Can Transfer:

  • If you’re not an Owner, you cannot transfer ownership
  • Admins cannot transfer ownership

Step 1: Access Team Management

  1. Log into Influxie
  2. Open Workspace from the left-hand sidebar
  3. View current team members

Step 2: Select the Recipient

  1. Find the team member who will become the new Owner
  2. Click the View action next to their name to open their edit page
  3. Choose Transfer Ownership on the edit page

Step 3: Confirm the Transfer

  1. A confirmation dialog appears
  2. Review the information carefully, including the payment-method warning:
    • Recipient name
    • What will happen (they become Owner, you become Admin)
    • “Your payment method will still be charged for existing subscriptions after the transfer, so update your payment details in the Stripe Customer Portal BEFORE transferring.”
    • Warning that this action is significant
  3. Confirm to complete the transfer — the caller becomes Admin, the target becomes Owner

Step 4: Transfer Completed

  1. Ownership is transferred immediately
  2. Recipient is now Owner
  3. You are now an Admin
  4. Both parties receive confirmation

What Happens After Transfer

For the New Owner

Immediate Changes:

  • Full Owner privileges
  • Can now transfer ownership
  • Can delete the workspace
  • Can remove any non-Owner team member (Admins, Editors, Viewers)
  • Access to all Owner-only features

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the workspace
  • Can manage team members
  • Controls billing and subscriptions
  • Makes strategic decisions

For the Previous Owner (Now Admin)

What You Keep:

  • Full operational access
  • Can manage accounts and engagement
  • Can manage billing and subscriptions
  • Can invite team members and remove other Admins, Editors, and Viewers
  • Access to all analytics

What You Lose:

  • Cannot delete the workspace
  • Cannot transfer ownership again
  • Cannot remove or change the new Owner (the Owner’s role dropdown and Save button are disabled for everyone)
  • No longer the “ultimate” authority

For Other Team Members

No Immediate Changes:

  • Their roles and access remain the same
  • Configurations unchanged
  • Engagement continues as normal
  • Minimal disruption to operations

Notification: Team may receive notification of ownership change (depending on your notification settings).

Reversing a Transfer

A transfer can only be reversed if the new Owner transfers ownership back to you — you cannot undo it yourself, so treat the transfer as permanent.

Special Considerations

One Owner Per Workspace

Each Influxie workspace has exactly one Owner — there is no “multiple Owners” mode and no concept of “co-owners” with equal power. The Owner role is a single, protected slot that only moves through the transfer process described above.

If you need shared operational control without transferring ownership, promote the other person to Admin instead. Admins have full operational access (accounts, engagement, billing, and team management of non-Owner members); they simply cannot delete the workspace or transfer ownership.

Billing and Subscriptions

Subscriptions themselves continue unchanged — the transfer does not cancel or pause any Instagram account subscriptions. The new Owner can update billing information (e.g. swap to their own card) in the Stripe Customer Portal (“Manage accounts”) after the transfer.

Third-Party Integrations

Consider:

  • Are any services integrated with Influxie using your account?
  • Do any sessions reference you as the primary contact?
  • Are there external dependencies on your ownership?

Action: Document and update any relevant third-party connections after transfer.

Common Questions

Can I transfer ownership to someone who isn’t a team member yet?

No, the person must already be a team member. Invite them first, then transfer ownership.

What if I transfer ownership by mistake?

You’ll need to ask the new Owner to transfer it back. This requires their cooperation.

Can I have no Owner?

No — a workspace always has exactly one Owner. The Owner cannot be removed, only transferred, so the workspace is never left without one. If the current Owner wants to leave, they must transfer ownership to an existing team member first.

Does transferring ownership affect sessions?

No, all engagement configurations, sessions, and analytics remain unchanged. The transfer only affects who has Owner-level permissions.

Can the new Owner remove me immediately?

Yes, as an Admin, they can remove you from the workspace. Only transfer ownership to someone you trust.

Best Practices

Do’s

✓ Have a Conversation Before Transferring

  • Confirm the recipient wants this responsibility
  • Discuss what it means
  • Ensure they understand the role

✓ Transfer During Low-Activity Periods

  • Choose a quiet time for the transition
  • Avoid critical campaign periods
  • Both parties available for questions

✓ Document Everything Beforehand

  • Current configurations
  • Important contacts
  • Pending issues or projects
  • Helps smooth transition

Don’ts

✗ Don’t Transfer Lightly

  • This is a significant action
  • Only transfer to trusted individuals
  • Consider all implications first

✗ Don’t Transfer Without Warning

  • Always discuss first
  • Give recipient time to prepare
  • Avoid surprises

✗ Don’t Assume You Can Reverse It

  • Reversing requires cooperation
  • Treat as permanent
  • Be confident in your decision
