Configuration Not Working as Expected
Fix issues when your engagement settings aren't producing the expected results.
Configuration Not Working as Expected
Your engagement settings are configured, but the results don’t match your expectations. This guide helps you diagnose and fix configuration issues.
Changes Not Applying to Sessions
Issue: Configuration Changes Don’t Show Up
Symptoms:
- Changed settings, but the running session kept the old behaviour
- New configuration appears saved, but results don’t match
- Old settings still in effect
How configuration saves:
There is no Save button. Every field autosaves about half a second after you edit it. The important thing to know is that changes apply to future sessions only — a session that is already running keeps the configuration it had when it started.
Solutions:
- Changes apply to future sessions only:
- If a session is currently running, it will continue with its original settings
- Stop the current session, then start a new one to pick up the new settings
- This is the most common reason a configuration “looks ignored”
- Verify changes persisted:
- Make a change in a configuration panel
- Refresh the page — the new value should still be there (autosave commits within ~0.5s)
- If it reverted, you likely turned a whole section off, which wipes that section’s data (you’ll be asked to confirm before this happens)
- Stop running sessions before changing config:
- Sessions use configuration at start time
- Stop current session
- Make configuration changes
- Start a new session with updated settings
Daily Limits Not Working as Expected
Issue: More Actions Than Configured
Symptoms:
- Session performs more actions than you configured
- Daily limit setting appears ignored
- Session report shows higher numbers than expected
Why this happens: Limits are per session, not per day. Each session can reach your configured limit, so running multiple sessions in a day adds up across sessions. See Session Tab Settings for how per-session limits work.
Fix:
- To cap your total daily actions, run one session per day using the Reoccurring schedule at a chosen start time (local timezone, whole hours only), with Maximum run time (1–6 hours) set to the window you want.
- If you run several sessions, divide your desired daily total across them (e.g., 100 follows/day across 2 sessions → set each to 50).
Issue: Session Stops Before Reaching Limits
Symptoms:
- Session completes early
- Far fewer actions than your limits allow
- Session report shows low action counts
Solutions:
- Check if targets were found:
- Session may have run out of targets
- Hashtag lists may be exhausted
- Similar accounts’ followers may all be interacted with
- Review your filter settings:
- Very restrictive filters can find too few targets
- Influxie has a Minimum following filter (default 50) — there is no “minimum followers” filter
- If you raised Minimum following very high, lower it back toward the default
- Try relaxing filters gradually
- Recently interacted accounts:
- The system skips accounts you have already interacted with, so running sessions frequently can shrink the available pool of targets
- Add more targets (hashtags, specific accounts, feed content) to widen the pool
Targeting Not Working
Issue: Not Reaching Intended Audience
Symptoms:
- Followers gained don’t match target audience
- Wrong demographics following
- Low follow-back rate
Why this happens: Your targeting is set by your hashtags, the similar accounts you target, and your Manual vs Automatic mode choice. Review and refine these in your configuration — see Configuring Engagement Settings for how each option works.
Issue: Session Reports “No Targets Found”
Symptoms:
- Session ends very quickly
- Report shows minimal or no actions
- No errors in session logs
Solutions:
- Populate your target lists:
- Add relevant hashtags (up to 20)
- Add 5-10 similar accounts under Specific accounts
- If using Automatic mode, make sure you’ve picked up to 5 content categories
- Relax your filters:
- Lower the Minimum following filter toward its default of 50
- There is no “minimum followers” filter
- Recently interacted accounts:
- Accounts you’ve already interacted with are skipped, so frequent sessions can exhaust targets
- Add more hashtags or specific accounts to widen the pool
- Rotate your hashtags:
- Using the same hashtags daily exhausts targets
- Use different hashtags each week
- This gives previous targets time to “refresh”
Feed Engagement Not Working
Issue: Feed Setting Being Ignored
Symptoms:
- Feed setting configured but not used
- Session report shows zero feed actions
Why this happens: The Feed setting counts the feed posts to interact with (not likes) — Influxie scrolls your home timeline for posts from accounts you already follow. If you don’t follow many accounts, your feed has little to engage with, so the setting can produce zero actions. See Configuring Engagement Settings for details.
Fix:
- Follow more relevant accounts so your timeline has content.
- Start the feed amount lower and raise it as your feed grows.
- Check the session report for “Timeline” or “Feed” actions — a “0” means no feed content was available.
Getting Configuration Help
When to Contact Support
Contact support for configuration issues if you’ve:
- ✗ Verified settings are correct but still not working
- ✗ Experienced persistent bugs in configuration user interface
- ✗ Unexpected behavior after updates
- ✗ Tried all troubleshooting steps
Information to Provide
When contacting support about configuration:
- Screenshot of configuration: Show your settings
- Expected vs actual behavior: What should happen vs what does
- Session report: Shows how configuration was applied
- Steps to reproduce: How to recreate the issue
Prevention Tips
Avoid Configuration Issues
- Start with default settings:
- Influxie provides sensible defaults
- Gradually adjust based on results
- Don’t change everything at once
- Test changes with one session:
- Make configuration changes
- Run one session to test
- Review results before making more changes
- Document what works:
- Note successful configurations
- Keep record of effective settings
- Use as baseline for future adjustments
- Review session reports regularly:
- Only way to know if settings are working
- Shows how configuration was applied
- Identify discrepancies quickly
FAQ
Why do my settings sometimes not apply to the current session?
Sessions use the configuration at the time they start. Changes made while a session is running won’t affect that session.
Can I have different configurations for different days?
Not automatically. You’d need to manually change settings between days or use multiple accounts with different configurations.
How do I know if my filters are too restrictive?
Low action counts and quick session completion suggest filters are eliminating too many potential targets.
