Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Turn on two-factor authentication to protect your Influxie account, use recovery codes, and understand what you'll see at login.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security for your Influxie account. As well as your password, it asks for a short, changing code from your phone. This means that even if someone learns your password, they still can’t get into your account without that code.
This guide explains how to turn it on, how recovery codes work, and what you’ll see when you sign in.
Where to Find It
- Sign in to Influxie
- Open your Profile page (from the side menu)
- Find the Two-factor authentication section
Turn On 2FA
You’ll need an authenticator app on your phone — for example Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy. (These are free apps from your phone’s app store.)
Steps:
- In the Two-factor authentication section, turn 2FA on.
- A QR code appears on screen. Scan it with your authenticator app.
- Your app starts showing a fresh 6-digit code every 30 seconds or so.
- Type the current code into Influxie to confirm.
- Influxie shows you 8 recovery codes — see the next section. Save these before you leave the page.
2FA is now on.
Recovery Codes — Your Backup Plan
When you turn on 2FA, Influxie gives you 8 recovery codes. Each is a short code made of about 10 characters (for example, a mix of letters and numbers).
What they’re for: if you ever lose your phone, can’t open your authenticator app, or just don’t have the 6-digit code handy, a recovery code gets you in instead. Think of them as spare keys.
Important rules:
- Each recovery code can only be used once. After you use one, cross it off your list.
- There are only 8 of them. If you run out, generate a fresh set (see below).
- They are different from the 6-digit codes — recovery codes are longer and don’t change.
- Keep them somewhere safe, like a password manager or a printed note in a secure place. Anyone who has them can bypass your 2FA.
Tip: Don’t store your recovery codes in the same place as your password. If someone finds both together, your 2FA won’t help.
Signing In With 2FA
When 2FA is on, signing in takes one extra step.
- Enter your email and password as usual.
- A small box pops up asking for a code.
- Enter either:
- the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app, or
- one of your recovery codes (if you don’t have your phone).
- You’re signed in.
Google sign-in skips 2FA. If you sign in with the “Sign in with Google” button, Influxie trusts Google’s security and does not ask for a 2FA code. This is intentional.
Get a Fresh Set of Recovery Codes
If you’ve used some codes, lost your list, or just want a clean set, you can generate new ones:
- Go to your Profile → Two-factor authentication.
- Choose to regenerate recovery codes.
- Influxie asks for a current 6-digit code (to make sure it’s really you).
- You get a brand-new set of 8 codes. Save them — the old set stops working.
Turn Off 2FA
You can switch 2FA off at any time:
- Go to your Profile → Two-factor authentication.
- Turn it off.
- Influxie asks for a current 6-digit code to confirm.
After that, signing in only needs your password again.
Common Questions
What if I lose my phone and don’t have my recovery codes? You’ll be locked out of 2FA. This is exactly why recovery codes matter — save them when you turn 2FA on. Without both your phone and your recovery codes, you would need to contact support.
Do recovery codes expire? No. They last until you use them or generate a new set.
Can I use the same recovery code twice? No. Each one works once only.
Should I turn on 2FA? Yes, if you want to keep your account safe. It adds a small step at sign-in but makes your account far harder to break into.
